Kindergarten

Looking for an alternative to large kindergarten classes? MCPKA offers a kindergarten! This will qualify as your child's kindergarten year and they are able to attend 1st grade the following school year. As students progress in our program, they are challenged with kindergarten-level instruction in order to develop skills and knowledge in the following areas: physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.

Benefits of Our Kindergarten:

  • Small Ratio* - Our class has smaller ratios (2:16) in order to provide your child with the necessary small group and one-on-one instruction they need.

  • Academic Readiness - Upon entering 1st grade, students have a foundation in the following areas to help them transition more easily into the first grade classroom:

    • Reading and reading comprehension

    • Writing

    • Fine motor

    • Mathematics

    • Social skills

    • Science skills

    • Social studies

  • Taught by a highly qualified and state certified teacher -

    • Miss Cheyenne is a licensed teacher in the state of Maryland (prek-3rd grade and ESOL prek-12th grade). She also has a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education.

  • Kindergarten students participate in Specials on Fridays. The specials for the 2023-2024 are: Art, Zumbini, Science, and Karate.

Requirements:

  • Kindergarten students must attend on Monday-Friday and full day in order to meet MSDE kindergarten requirements.

  • Students must turn 5 by September 1st, or have an approved early-entry waiver from HCPSS.

  • All students must be fully potty-trained.**

*Our class may include a mix of pre-kindergarten (4s), transitional kindergarten (5s), and kindergarten students. Babies and toddlers are never accepted. As always, having different ages and ability levels does not affect the level of instruction that your child receives. Each child receives personalized and differentiated instruction daily to meet their individual goals and needs.

**Fully potty-trained is defined by as children being able to go through the entire day without wetting or soiling themselves and not needing a diaper or pull-up at anytime during the day. The fully potty trained child is also completely independent for knowing when to go to the bathroom, and does not need assistance inside the bathroom such as getting on or off the potty, pulling pants up or down, redressing and wiping. If your child is determined by MCPKA to not be full potty-trained, then the MCPKA has the right to change enrollment status.
